About Me

Chances are good that you’ve already read something I’ve written. I’ve authored or co-authored 14 published books and hundreds of magazine and newspaper articles – so you know my writing skills are solid.

Writing geared to the reader

After more than 25 years as a full-time freelance writer, I’ve learned that my most important skill is the ability to understand the unique needs of each audience and tailor what I write to meet those needs. I’ve written effectively about new research for academics, basics of baby care for young parents, health concerns for seniors, an organization’s accomplishments for potential donors and travel destinations for newspaper readers.

While I’ve written for a variety of companies and organizations on a wide range of topics, I have the most experience in children’s services, child welfare, social services, education and health.

Education and experience

I majored in Chemistry at Trent University and then earned a diploma in Magazine Journalism at Ryerson.

I’ve written news releases, website copy, policies and procedures, brochures, fundraising letters and case statements, annual reports, position statements, handbooks and manuals, video scripts, speeches, presentations, and much more.

But that’s just one side of my writing. My work has appeared in Today’s Parent, Chatelaine, Family Fun, Woman’s World, West of the City, More, Mothering, New Beginnings, Explore, Juno, The Globe and Mail, The Toronto Star and many other periodicals.
